We are looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant to join our global Revenue Accounting operations team supporting the Advertising Revenue segment, including Programmatic, Direct-Sold, Podcast, and Emerging Ad Products. This role sits within the Order-to-Cash (OTC) process and is responsible for driving accounting operations across Spotify's multi-billion dollar advertising business as it scales globally.
The Revenue Accounting team is a central partner to Spotify's Advertising business, working at the intersection of Finance, Engineering, and Sales to ensure accurate financial reporting while building scalable processes that support rapid growth and new revenue streams. This role offers exposure to a wide range of cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives.
What You'll Do
• Coordinate accounting across Spotify’s Advertising Revenue business, including Programmatic, Direct-Sold, Podcast, and Emerging Ad Products.
• Execute and review month-end close activities, including revenue and deferred revenue journal entries, account reconciliations, and fluctuation analyses.
• Help ensure accurate and timely advertising financial reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve how we work and partner with Engineering and business stakeholders to scope, test, and implement scalable accounting processes and system improvements.
• Develop and refine revenue accounting processes for new advertising revenue streams, ad formats, platform integrations, and partnerships.
• Partner with Technical Accounting, Finance, Legal, Sales, Sales Operations, FP&A, Accounts Receivable, Tax, Financial Engineering, and other teams on accounting and systems initiatives.
• Prepare support for internal and external audits, assess accounting risks, and test system releases that affect advertising revenue reporting.
• Support acquisitions, ERP and other system implementations, and special projects related to Spotify’s evolving advertising business.
Who You Are
• You have 4+ years of experience in revenue accounting, accounting operations, general ledger accounting, or public accounting, ideally within digital advertising, ad tech, digital media, entertainment, or another business operating at scale.
• You have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent higher education; CPA or CA credentials are a plus.
• You understand IFRS, revenue recognition principles, and accounting controls, with exposure to ITGC and/or SOX environments.
• You have experience working with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system such as Oracle or SAP.
• You are comfortable working with data and systems; experience with SQL, BigQuery, or AI-enabled tools is a plus.
• You bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can balance attention to detail with an understanding of the bigger picture.
• You can manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work against deadlines, including during month-, quarter-, and year-end close.
• You enjoy collaborating across teams and time zones and bring curiosity and adaptability to a changing business and technology environment.
Where You'll Be
• This role is based in New York.
• We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
• We ask that you come into the office 2–3 days per week.
The United States base range for this position is $86,046–$122,923 USD, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six-month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, paid flexible holidays, and paid sick leave.
